Do you know the difference between whiskey and whisky? Most do not, so let me tell you!
It actually goes a bit deep however, we do not have time for that so this is a super generalized explanation.
Whisky comes from Scotland, whereas Whiskey is from the USA and Ireland.
The key differences between them, is that whiskey is only distilled three times making it lighter on your palate, while Whisky is distilled two times giving it a stronger aftertaste. Yet, there are other factors such as location, grains, barrels, matling, aging, etc. Japanese whisky forgoes the E as they learned how to make it from the Scots. Though as I previously mentioned, there is way more too it than that.
That being said, the following are some of my favorites and go-to that you cannot go wrong with.
Ole Smoky (lots of flavored Whiskey)
Old Overholt Rye
Rittenhouse Rye
Powers Gold Label
Monkey Shoulder
Glen Moray
Buffalo Trace White Dog Mash #1
Knob Creek Rye (green label)
Early Times
The Glenlivet 12
Jameson
Suntory Toki
Suntory Hibiki Harmony
Skrewball Peanut Butter
Forty Creek
Alberta Premium
Lot 40
JP Wisers
Johnnie Walker Black Label
Johnnie Walker Blue Label
Penelope Toasted
Uncle Nearest
Suntory Hibiki Harmony
Honestly, I love pretty much all of Suntory line up. This and the regular Toki, I keep on hand!
Ole Smoky Cookies & Cream
This whiskey is plain weird but so good! I enjoy it on the rocks and in milk shakes.
Old Overholt Straight Rye - Cask Strength
This 121 proof rye hits in all the right spots without having that brash bite that rye is known for. Excellent for sipping. You can mix it to brighten whiskey cocktails however, most would not mix this.
Jameson Irish Whiskey
Good, cheap, can mix it without feeling guilty. A good staple and alternative to Jack Daniels. (Though most whiskey is better than JD).
